The spacious grounds surrounding our accommodation facilities allow you to enjoy some group activities, or just soak up those magnificent views and grand vista of mountains and vast expansive landscape that provides you with a sense of freedom.

Either in the form of the bunk house shared sleeping quarters or the more secluded twin cabins along with a basic one room Musterers’ Hut, it’s for you to choose what fits you best.
Attractions
With amazing views of the surrounding mountains, a short two minute drive will see you at Lake Heron and the many other lakes within a 30 minute drive. The Te Araroa walking trail passes close by.
Activities
Fishing and lake activities are just down the road, or make the most of the Hakatere Conservation Park which offers mountain biking, tramping or a spot of hunting (permit required)

Attractions
Lake Heron and a number of smaller lakes and rivers are a short distance away which will satisfy your sport fishing interests. Enjoy the vast expanse of Lake Heron from your canoe or kayak (non motorised craft only) while you soak up the grand visa that the area has to offer.
Or simply set yourself up on the shores of the lake and take the opportunity to absorb the brilliance of this stunning place and bask in the hot sun or take a leisurely swim.
Activities
Make the most of the numerous public areas across the Hakatere Conservation Park which offer mountain biking, tramping or a spot of hunting (permit required). Well formed walking tracks allow access to these expansive areas which will see you in awe of the magnificent landscape and views that will open up in front of your eyes.
During the winter months, the snow clad mountains offer opportunities with heliskiing with the locally owned and operated venture Methven Heliski.

Ashburton Lakes Mountain Biking
Come and enjoy the opportunity to ride these and a number of other tracks close by.
Many 4WD vehicle tracks traversing the Hakatere Conservation park make for good mountain biking but have not been listed here as they have no official gradings or track markings as yet.
Lake Heron Grade: 1 – Time: 30 min / Distance: 1.6 km
Lake Emma to Lake Camp Grade: 2 – Time: 2 hours / Distance: 9.5 km
Lake Emma to Balmacaan Saddle Grade: 3 – Time: 2 hours / Distance – 15 km
Lake Clearwater Grade: 2 – Time: 30 min / Distance: 1.7 km
